Spirulina is a natural algae and it considered the most nutrient dense food on the planet. It is usually harvested from bodies of water such as lakes or farmed in ponds. First used by the Aztecs (were a Mesoamerican culture that flourished in central Mexico in the post-classic period from 1300 to 1521) as an endurance-booster, spirulina is considered a superfood — an all-in-one source of nutrients including protein levels comparable to eggs. This superfood is highly recommended to vegetarians due to its high natural iron, protein and essential amino acid content.
